We often receive questions about the administration of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines in schools and childcare settings. We’d like to clarify the current guidance:
Q: Does a prescriber need to prescribe a non-prescription (over the counter) medicine in order for a school, nursery or child minder to administer it?
A: No. Non-prescription (over-the-counter) medication does not require a prescriber’s signature or authorisation for administration in schools, nurseries, or by childminders.
